The AI Revolution: KAS Students are Ready to Lead! What a weekend at the Kaohsiung American School! Our student-led KAIMUN conference is bringing together delegates from Taiwan, the region and even the USA to tackle the critical topic of Artificial Intelligence. It is inspiring to see these young minds debating and negotiating ethical questions surrounding AI's impact on global governance, science, trade, peace and security, and international relations. The conference, which was sponsored by NVIDIA and other leading tech and AI firms, highlights a truly exciting time for Kaohsiung. As city and national officials shared at the opening ceremony, Taiwan aims to make Kaohsiung City a global leader in AI, with companies like NVIDIA and TSMC expanding their presence here. Our students, with their bilingual abilities and a solid grounding in the IB program as smart, capable and ethical young people, are perfectly positioned to be at the forefront of this revolution. They are learning to navigate the world not with a sense of entitlement, but with a strong sense of responsibility and service. In his welcome address, Neil Gibson, the Director of the American Institute of Taiwan's Kaohsiung branch, reminded the young delegates that staying ahead of AI is critical for the future of the USA and our global partners. This echoes the growing consensus among Western nations that leadership in AI is not just an economic or technological necessity, but a strategic imperative for maintaining global stability and democratic values. It’s a critical task that demands the intellectual rigor and critical & creative thinking our students are practicing at KAS. As Dr. Alexis Black from NVIDIA's DGX Cloud explained in her keynote, AI is a new kind of revolution. Just as the first industrial revolution combined energy and raw materials to create products, this new AI era combines energy and data to create knowledge and intelligence. It's a powerful analogy that shows just how transformative this moment is. This student-led ModelUN conference is exactly the kind of deeper learning we champion at KAS. By engaging with complex, real-world issues, our students aren't just preparing for college—they are preparing to shape a better future. Go Dragons!
