Child Safeguarding

At KAS, we are committed to safeguarding and protecting our students from harm. We believe every child and young person has the right to be safe and protected. We believe that safeguarding students is everyone’s responsibility.

KAS endorses the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which Taiwan is a signatory, and adheres to the Protection of Children and Youth Welfare and Rights Act of the Republic of China and related laws and regulations. KAS also works closely with Taiwan’s Bureau of Education and Ministry of Social Welfare to respond to safeguarding concerns.

Key points from our Child Protection and Safeguarding Handbook:
  • KAS conducts rigorous background and reference checks on all candidates prior to job offers.
  • All employees and volunteers at KAS receive training to recognize signs of abuse and neglect and are required to report suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect.
  • Our child protection response team uses a team-based approach to respond to each reported incident in accordance with Taiwanese law and international best practices.
  • Age appropriate safeguarding lessons are embedded into KAS curriculum from PreK-12, and all students will engage with these lessons.
  • KAS is committed to supporting and recognizing the identities of all students.  We seek to foster an environment free of discrimination and other forms of identity-based harm.
  • Faculty, staff, and volunteers who work with students adhere to a Code of Conduct to ensure our dedication to the wellbeing of students and community.
  • All adults at the school are responsible for safeguarding children at the school. We ask visitors to adhere to guidelines that support safeguarding of our students.
