At Kaohsiung American School, we believe that education must be dynamic and evolving to prepare students for a complex and rapidly changing world. By continuously refining our programs, embracing innovation, and fostering a culture of reflection and improvement, we ensure that every student receives the highest quality education. Our commitment to excellence, belonging, well-being, stewardship, and passionate learning guides our strategic vision.

During the 2022–2023 school year, a diverse task force—including faculty, staff, students, parents, and members of the PTA and Board of Directors—engaged in a comprehensive strategic planning process shaped by community feedback. This effort resulted in a strategic framework that is guiding KAS’ growth and improvement over the next three to five years.

KAS is committed to excellence in teaching and learning, ensuring that students engage in meaningful, rigorous, and personalized educational experiences that prepare them for the future.

Strategic Priorities:

  • Defining Instructional Excellence: Establishing a clear vision for high-quality teaching and learning across PK–12, grounded in research and best practices.
  • Curriculum Alignment & Transparency: Ensuring a cohesive and accessible PreK–12 curriculum, with unit outlines published on the KAS website and fully developed unit planners.
  • Authentic Learning Experiences: Expanding service-learning, interdisciplinary projects, internships, and real-world applications of learning across all grade levels.
  • Assessment & Student Growth: Implementing best practices for measuring student growth and achievement by strengthening academic progress tracking, establishing meaningful demonstrations of student learning at key stages, and setting appropriate achievement targets.
  • Professional Growth & Leadership: Investing in teacher collaboration, instructional coaching, and leadership development to ensure continuous innovation and student success and foster a culture of collaboration and coaching.
  • Holistic & Inclusive Programming: Expanding support for diverse learners and increasing opportunities for students through multiple pathways to success, personalized learning experiences, and flexible academic programs.
  • Strengthening English Acquisition: Enhancing English language learning and literacy across all grade levels through targeted instruction, integrated support for multilingual learners, and expanded opportunities for language development in and out of the classroom.
WELLBEING & COMMUNITY

At KAS, we recognize that a strong school community and student wellbeing are essential for academic success. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and engaging school culture where students thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Strategic Priorities:

  • Holistic Student Wellbeing: Supporting students’ intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development through advisory programs, service learning, student-led initiatives, and expanded extracurricular opportunities.
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice (DEIJ): Implementing culturally responsive teaching, anti-discrimination programs, and diversity and equity measures, and encouraging student involvement and initiatives to ensure a welcoming environment for all.
  • Child Safeguarding & Student Safety: Ensuring that faculty, staff, and students receive annual training and that child protection policies remain up to date and effectively implemented.
  • Communication: Enhancing communication and collaboration with parents, the PTA, and the broader KAS community through improved social media, newsletters, videos, and direct outreach.

To sustain our mission and ensure long-term success, KAS is committed to strategic financial planning, operational excellence, and faculty recruitment and retention.

Strategic Priorities:

  • Faculty Recruitment & Retention: Maintaining a competitive salary and benefits package, including annual benchmarking reviews to attract and retain top educators.
  • Sustainability & Risk Mitigation: Strengthening financial planning, emergency preparedness, cybersecurity, and operational efficiency to ensure business continuity and school safety.
  • Marketing & Admissions: Expanding outreach and optimal enrollment through targeted advertising, Open House events, and potential expansion opportunities.
  • Financial & Operational Planning: Ensuring long-term financial stability and sustainability through multi-year budgeting, risk management policies, and financial reporting to support the school’s continued growth and resilience.
  • Facilities Master Plan: Investing in campus improvements, including playground enhancements, new teacher workspaces, and potential collaborations with local institutions for expanded learning spaces and opportunities.
