Welcome to the KAS Library
About The Library
Once upon a time, a school library was a room where students huddled quietly and checked out the dusty pages of books from a maze of shelves. We’re proud to share that the Kaohsiung American School library brings a 21st-century experience to reading and research.
Our modern library was designed first with students in mind. The friendly circulation desk offers a smile and a guide to over 55,000 items in our mixed-media catalog. You’ll notice how open the space feels because the 700 square meters is unobstructed by tall book cases. Even our youngest library patrons can reach the top shelves of our collection, because accessibility was built-in.
The accessibility of information doesn’t end with just the physical space. Our students have access to an impressive trove of information both on and off campus. KAS subscribes to scholarly databases, audiobook collections, ebook houses, and more! Our collection continues to grow, through careful curation and book requests from the KAS community.
The library is a welcoming place for all of our KAS learners. Open tables for individual work offer a place to spread out and focus, while our four study rooms bring students together for collaborative projects.
Elementary students look forward to book shopping during their weekly library class. With access to the entire catalog just a click away on their 1:1 Chromebooks, they can find their favorite titles right away. Thanks to the colorful and helpful signage, our librarians can guide and suggest other books to enrich and expand each child’s individual interests.
Our literacy mission extends our entire community, whether you’re in grade 3 or grade 43. Parents can register their KAS Parent ID card at our circulation desk to check out books alongside their children. We love encouraging families to read together.
