High school students explore future career pathways and hone their vocational skills through the Future Leaders Program (FLP). First envisioned by the Board of Directors, faculty members, and alumni in the summer of 2020, the FLP created vocational opportunities to supplement the strong academic foundation that KAS is committed to providing to students. During the course of their internships, FLP students are matched with professional mentors at Kaohsiung-based businesses and organizations, where they gain valuable hands-on experiences, make connections, and pursue their interests.

Service Learning

Service learning is an important part of the KAS experience that gives students the chance to engage with the local community and develop as compassionate leaders. Through valued community partnerships, we create opportunities for students from grades 6–12 to participate in meaningful community service activities and trips. Whether it’s street and trail cleaning, socializing with senior citizens, mentoring children, or one of the programs highlighted below, KAS service learning provides well-rounded educational experiences that take learning beyond the classroom to benefit students and the broader Kaoshiung community.

KAS Participatory Research Team (PAR)

Students in the PAR Program are passionate about working with children and interested in learning more about the learning and physical disabilities impacting young children. The PAR team engages in regular research meetings and in-depth volunteer experiences at the Nanzih Child Development Center and in KAS elementary classrooms. This meaningful program culminates in a collaborative project.

Academic & Interpersonal Mentorship (AIM) Program

Middle school students receive mentorship from and interact with high school students through the AIM Program. Through these unique student mentor-mentee relationships, middle schoolers gain academic knowledge, interpersonal skills, connection, confidence, and the support they need to prepare for high school.

National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society

National Honor Society (NHS) is a service and leadership organization that students in grades 10–12 are inducted into based on selection by a Faculty Council. Student members uphold the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character, participate in leadership and service opportunities, and implement projects that benefit the campus, local, and global community. Students in grades 6–7 may be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Similar to NHS, this international organization engages students in service activities and equips them with the knowledge and skills to act as leaders at KAS and in the community.
