Living in Kaohsiung

A true gem of Asia, Kaohsiung balances the local with the international, traditional and modern, allowing you a lifestyle that matches the tastes and preferences for the whole family.

Taiwan has consistently been ranked as the #1 destination for expats to work, live, and raise a family. Kaohsiung, once purported to be the 4th largest harbor city in the world, boasts modern amenities that rival even London, Sydney, and New York. With some of the fastest Internet speeds in the world, clean and reliable public transport, and a YouBike system well-stocked across the city, residents of this world-class city are always connected.

Taiwan’s incredible public health system is easy to use, efficient and inexpensive, and Kaohsiung’s foodie scene is ever-evolving and fast-paced. From its famous night markets and local foods, to the wide variety of Western dining and supermarkets, southern Taiwan will leave you fulfilled.

Kaohsiung is a very safe place to live, work, and raise a family. Some of our favorite neighborhoods include the Art Park, Aozihdi, and the Lotus Pond area. Bustling streets with modern shops and department stores sit comfortably next to more traditional markets and food stalls. There is truly something for everyone.

Taiwan’s second biggest city is also very well connected to the rest of the island. The High Speed Rail station sits on the main metro line and can whisk you to Taipei within 90 minutes. New train lines crossing the mountains can take you to Taitung in two and a half hours, and Hualien in just under four.

Kaohsiung’s appreciation of nature can be found all round, with numerous parks, Cijin Island, and even casual mountain hikes less than an hour away by car. Living in Kaohsiung means you could wake up to a morning surf and be hiking mountain trails by afternoon, only to cap the day with a trendy restaurant in the city and dessert at a night market.
