Immersed in the Arts

The arts are an important part of the KAS curriculum and experience, and in fostering confidence and creativity. From elementary to high school, students are given the opportunity for self expression, to hone their artistic skills, and to reap the many developmental benefits of a quality arts education.

Performing Arts

Everyday is a performance in our music classrooms. Elementary School students dance, sing, and find joy in song while learning the fundamentals of music. Beginning in Grade 3, students take up the violin, followed by recorders in Grade 4, and tunable percussion in Grade 5. Students may also choose to participate in an Elementary School orchestra as an after-school elective.

Our Middle and High School students continue their melodic journey with a more intensive look at composition and analysis of song. They explore the forms, styles, and functions of music from a wide range of historical and socio-cultural contexts. Students create, participate in, and reflect upon music from their own background and those of others. They develop practical and communicative skills which provide them with the opportunity to engage in music for further study, as well as for lifetime enjoyment.

Visual Arts

All students at KAS participate in visual arts. At every level, our students are offered the opportunity to create while developing analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking. They are challenged through various media to become critically informed makers and consumers of visual culture, and develop an appreciation for the expressive and aesthetic diversity in the world around them.

Students can be found working in our two art studios and their work is proudly showcased in the hallways, and through exhibits in the lobby, exposition hall, and media center.

Arts from Around the World

KAS is a welcome home to artists and performers from around the world. Each year, the players presented by CAVES Books thrill our audience with a dramatic and educational performance in our auditorium. Prominent Kaohsiung street artist “DWANG” recently collaborated with KAS seniors to produce a mural of our beloved mascot. Virtuosos including acapella sensation Alti & Bassi, Tchaikovsky award-winning violinist Benny Tseng, and renowned dance troupe Cloud Gate 2, have all filled our school with their art. Even beloved Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma was kind enough to share some time with our students during a recent tour through Taiwan. It’s all part of helping to empower the next generation of balanced individuals.
