Dear KAS Community,
We are excitedly preparing for the first day of school on August 10. As faculty and staff, we believe that the first day of school is one of the best days of the year. We care about each student and their success and growth, and it is a great joy to see them again after the summer. It is a special time for students to reconnect with old friends and make new friends.
First and foremost, safety remains our top priority. I want to keep you informed about our safety procedures as we begin the school year. We remain proud of the strength and unity that the KAS community showed during the spring of 2020. With the efforts of everybody together in the spring, we kept the community safe and kept students learning. We will build on this unity to ensure safety this year. Our Response Team continues to meet to analyze information from reliable, officials sources of information like Taiwan’s CECC.
We want to inform you in advance of some of the safety procedures in place as we start the school year:
Based on the recommendations from Taiwan’s CECC, we will continue requiring all students, faculty, and staff to wear face masks at school. We ask each person to bring their own mask. We do have some masks available in our nurse’s office to temporarily help students who need a mask during the first days of school. We will continue with our social distancing measures during lunch to keep all students and staff safe.
All students’ temperatures will be scanned and noted upon entering the campus. Any student with a temperature above 37.0 C will be sent home. Temperatures will be taken on the forehead.
All students will be asked to wash their hands at the beginning of each school day and before and after eating.
Each student will need to have a completed travel/health questionnaire completed before arriving at school on Monday. We will track this electronically – there is no need to bring a printed copy. Families will receive an individual survey for each student.
For our campus, we are taking the following actions
All classrooms have liquid soap and disinfection spray available.
We have added auto disinfection spray machines in our lobby, dining hall, media center, library, athletic complex, and auditorium.
We have wiped all door handles with a bleach solution.
Janitors will spray all door handles with a 75% alcohol/diluted bleach solution hourly during normal hours.
After normal hours each day, janitors will mop desks, handrails, elevator buttons, floors, and toilets with a bleach solution,
We have worked together with our bus companies to ensure ample disinfection supplies. Our bus company is disinfecting the surfaces in the buses every morning before picking up children, and again every afternoon before children board the buses to ride home.
Our janitors always do a great job of cleaning and disinfecting the entire dining hall after students have completed lunch. However, they are now taking additional steps and promptly disinfecting tables before lunch periods and again as individual students finish their lunches.
For all parents, we ask for your help in the following:
Please take your child(ren)’s temperatures before coming to school. If the temperature is above 37.0 C, that child should be kept at home for 24 hours.
Campus will be closed to all visitors except those with appointments. If you have an appointment, please check in at the front desk, where your temperature will be taken.
Only employees will be permitted to enter the parking garage. This is because we must ensure that we monitor the health and travel of all inside the KAS campus, and so we are not allowing visitors or any other unmonitored individuals inside the building.
Parents may drive in, drop off children and leave campus through the exit gate right away.
We ask all students to arrive at school no earlier than 7:30 as there will not be supervision and students will have to wait outside the school
-reK – grade 1 students will be dropped off at the door near the counselor offices and have their temperature taken before entering the building. Adults will be present to supervise children as they go to class.
All other students dropped off in the front will have their temperatures taken and will enter the school through the lobby. Parents will be asked not to go with them.
Students entering through the back gate will have their temperatures taken there. Parents will be asked not to enter through the back gate.
Parents will not be permitted to accompany children to their classrooms.
Please note that we are welcoming parents of PK students and parents of new elementary students to bring their children to the classrooms during the first week of school. This is to help our youngest students adjust to the new school environment. These parents must follow the same health procedures as students, and are asked to please leave campus no later 8:00 AM.
At the end of the day, PreK – grade 1 students will be escorted to the door near the counselor’s offices. Parents are asked to wait outside there until their children come out.
-All other students will be excused through the front doors of the lobby. Parents are asked to wait outside of those doors for their children.
We thank you for your cooperation in following these so that we can continue keeping students safe.
For your reference I have attached a copy of the handbooks for our Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. Please do read the applicable handbooks for your household, and please contact us with any questions. Your teachers are a great place to start with any questions, and for any questions that they may not be able to resolve, your administration is here to help as well.
We will see you bright and early on August 10!
