Richard Ferguson joined Kaohsiung American School in 2016. He was born and raised in Hokitika, New Zealand. In 2008, Richard graduated from Canterbury University with a BSPC (Bachelor of Sports Coaching). While at Canterbury, he also studied Te Reo Maori, Indigenous Science, and the precolonial history of New Zealand. Richard also completed a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from Canterbury University in 2009, majoring in Physical Education and Outdoor Education. In 2013, he re returned to his studies at Massey University, New Zealand in order to further his ability to teach Te Reo Maori. Richard has seven years teaching experience in New Zealand. In 2010 he started his teaching career at Rangitoto College, teaching physical education, Maori and social studies. Richard is MYP-certified and is currently the Aquatics Director at KAS. In this position he holds an Outdoors First Aid Certificate as well as a New Zealand Pool Lifeguard Skills award. Richard was a competitive swimmer from a young age, qualifying for the New Zealand Nationals in 2004. This is his first job teaching internationally. Richard and his wife, Michelle, who is also a teacher at KAS, now call Taiwan home.
