All related to the understanding and application of MYP Physical Education key concepts: Change, Communication, and Relationships.

9th Grade PE and Health High School

This is a year-long course that is designed to holistically develop, foster, and empower student self-actualization. Development of the Cognitive, Psycho-motor, and Affective Domains serve to guide students toward leading an active, healthy lifestyle skillfully, knowledgeably, responsibly, and vigorously. Content covered includes a wide variety of team and individual sports, track & field, dance and gymnastics, as well as a number of fitness activities. The health component of the course is designed to help students acquire an understanding of health concepts and the skills needed in making healthy decisions to improve, sustain, and promote personal, family, and community health.

Lifetime Fitness High School

Grades: 10-12
Prerequisite: None

This is a year-long course that is designed to help students learn about and apply personal fitness concepts that will help them develop their own personal fitness. Concepts include: the health related components of fitness, physical and psychological (stress management, mental health benefits, etc.) benefits of developing and maintaining personal fitness, the connection between nutrition and exercise, developing stretching routines before and after workouts, safety protocols in relation to weight training, using technology to assist in developing/meeting goals, creating and implementing personal fitness plans, and reflecting/refining fitness goals/plans based on results. Using these concepts students will develop a personal fitness plan based on their own fitness related goals, and then implement that plan in order to meet their defined goals. The ultimate goal of this course is for students to learn how to create and implement realistic plans for personal fitness, and encourage students to continue to maintain their own personal fitness throughout the rest of their lives.
