As an American School in Taiwan, Kaohsiung American School seeks to understand and take action in support of our students, staff, and families during the current racial justice movement, as exemplified by groups like the Black Lives Matter non-profit organization. KAS acknowledges systemic racism and systems of oppression in the United States and in the world, and our responsibility to teach empathy and universal values that will lead our students to create a better future.
KAS honors equity and diversity for our community and is committed to the hard work needed to build mutual respect for all people within our school, and the world. It is our continued goal to create a safe and supportive school environment where all students are empowered and honored in their individual identity and show respect and humility towards difference.
KAS commitment to civil rights and diversity is embedded in our new strategic plan which includes implementation of a global-standards based instructional curriculum and a robust social/emotional program that honor both academic and character development. We are further willing to constantly examine our own practices as it pertains to equity and a continuous cycle of improvement driven by student, family and staff voices and actions.
