President Tsai Ing-wen was in attendance at the Annual Taiwan Architecture Awards to recognize excellence in design & architecture. The 2018 presentation was held at the Nanping Exhibition Hall on December 15. Kaohsiung American School won first prize from among 12 finalists, and Dr. Ploeger accepted the award for KAS on behalf of MAYU Architects+. Event organizer and Chair of the Department of Architecture at National Chen Kun University, Professor Wu Guanting (吳光庭) specifically mentioned the building’s unique transparency as a way to bring students together. The facility, named in honor of former Superintendent Dr. Thomas Farrell, holds a Gold LEED certification for its energy efficient design and innovative use of renewable and sustainable materials, making KAS the first school campus in Taiwan to be LEED certified.
At KAS we are so fortunate to experience once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We’re so incredibly proud of the work that MAYU Architects+ has produced, and so humbled to be able to enjoy it every day.
