Susana Yeh President

After 3 years as an executive officer of the KAS PTA, Susana Yeh joined the Board of Directors in 2020. Ms. Yeh is the proud parent of two boys who have been enrolled at KAS throughout their primary years. She understands the KAS Mission very well, especially when it comes to Global Citizens. Susana was born in Hsinchu, Taiwan, but spent her entire childhood in Central America. Not only is she fluent in Mandarin, English, and Spanish, having grown up in an East-meets-West home has given her the experiences of the expressive Latino culture, and also the mindfulness of her native land.

Professionally, Ms. Yeh has found plenty of applications for her arts degree from The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. She has worked as a packaging and graphics designer, an Art Director, and most recently as a brand strategist for international automotive manufacturer Ford Motor Company.

Susana sees her service at KAS through the lens of a positive partnership that advances the mission and vision of the school.

Neil Gibson Vice-President, AIT/K Representative

Neil Gibson arrived in Kaohsiung in August 2023 to assume his duties as the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Chief. He takes great pride in being the parent of three KAS dragons, each attending a different school level: High School, Middle School, and Elementary School.

Since joining the U.S. Department of State in 2009, he has served at the U.S. Embassy to Japan, the American Institute in Taiwan in Taipei, the U.S. Embassy to the Philippines, the U.S. Mission to the OECD in Paris, and the U.S. Embassy to Iraq. Mr. Gibson is a recipient of two Department of State Superior Honor Awards and the Sinclaire Language Award.

Prior to his career in the Foreign Service, he was an International Investment Specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce. Mr. Gibson holds a master’s degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture business from California State University, Fresno.

Mr. Gibson is from California and speaks Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.

Dr. Bo-Cheng Lai Secretary

Bo-Cheng Lai joined the Board of Directors of KAS in June 2022. He has two children attending the middle school of KAS. Bo-Cheng obtained his Ph.D degree from the electrical engineering department of UCLA, and worked as a staff scientist in a chip design company in the Silicon Valley. Bo-Cheng is currently a full professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. He has accumulated extensive experience in higher education system and high-tech industry in both US and Taiwan.

Johnny Chueh Treasurer

Johnny joined the Board of Directors of KAS in June 2023. Born and raised in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for the first 10 years of his life then spent his teenage years in Sydney Australia. At the age of 18, Johnny enrolled in the economics program at the University of Chicago. By the time he graduated, in 1997, Johnny had accumulated enough credits for both economics and psychology degrees. He enjoyed both disciplines so much that he flirted with the idea of earning a doctorate in organisational behaviour.

Johnny currently is the President of Alexander Marine, a global company in the yacht industry. Johnny has twins currently attending KAS High School.

James Lee Director

James has worked alongside Steve Jobs at both NeXT and Apple, and was in charge of everything web-related at NeXT in the early days of the World Wide Web. Today’s iPhone App Store and Apple’s web store are direct descendants of ideas and projects conceived and managed by James from those early days.

James graduated with a degree of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley. He has been in the high tech industry since the early 1990’s. After leaving Apple, James has launched several dot-com ventures, as well as a consulting company. During NeXT, Apple, and with his consulting company, James has been involved in projects with companies ranging from Disney, FedEx, Pfizer, and others.

As a lifelong bodybuilding and martial art enthusiast, after returning to Taiwan in 2013, James founded nutritional supplement company in Taiwan: Muscle Fuel, developing and manufacturing world’s best protein powder and health supplements.

James also founded Taiwan’s largest bodybuilding-related Facebook Group 健身新手, with over 290,000 members, and is currently involved in several bodybuilding-related projects in Taiwan.

James hopes to bring his passion, life perspectives and experiences to contribute to being a member of the board of directors at KAS, and work with the board, the school administrators and team to make KAS the best environment possible for the students, parents, and all members of the KAS community.

John Lee Director

John Lee is enjoying his 9th year at KAS and is the proud parent of a son in grade 9 and daughter in grade 8.

John is a chemical engineer, TEDx Speaker, and author. As the CEO of Timeless Truth Mask, he's revolutionizing facial sheet masks, with distribution in top-tier retailers like Le Bon Marche and Selfridges. He's also the visionary behind Jola International, renowned for its premium skincare products that adhere to strict European standards. Committed to sustainability, he's a member of RE100, advocating for 100% renewable energy.

John is an avid reader and animal lover, and founded BOOKING, a bookstore cafe in Kaohsiung that houses a menagerie of animals including chameleons, giant tortoises, and more. An active sports enthusiast, he's a licensed tennis coach, a golfer, snowboarder, and wakeboarder. He is also a prolific writer, with publications in international journals and authorship of multiple books, including "當我不再像自己時，我終於活出自己." He also contributes as a columnist for《天下雜誌》Commonwealth Magazine.

Dr. Yale Liang Director

Yale joined the Board of Directors of KAS in September of 2023. He is the proud (and happily exhausted) father of a very active Elementary School student, who keeps both Yale and his wife Waychel on their toes.

Born and raised in Kaohsiung, Yale emigrated to the US after his elementary school graduation to attend junior and senior high schools in Severna Park, Maryland, pursuing his interest in violin while excelling in his academics. Yale was the All-County and All-State Orchestra Concertmaster in his Junior and Senior years in high school before graduating as the class salutatorian.

After graduating from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, Yale attended the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine before being accepted and trained in the Family Medicine Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is currently a Board-certified diplomate in the American Board of Family Medicine.

After more than two decades practicing medicine, first in Minnesota and then in Oregon, Yale returned to Kaohsiung to be with his parents and to re-immerse himself in the Taiwanese culture. He has enticed his son into becoming a foodie in Taiwanese food (although his son is still a firm “no” on stinky tofu). Yale is honored to be a member of the Board and is looks forward to continuing to serve the KAS community.

Monica Yang Director

Monica Yang joined the KAS Board of Directors in 2018. She originally hails from Taipei, but has a literal world of experience behind her. At age 12, she immigrated to Argentina and studied there until her junior year, when she doubled-up and graduated a year early. Monica returned to Taiwan and studied at the National Cheng Chi University, where she earned her degree in Urban Planning. Her business acumen was on full display at University, when she opened a store selling printer cartridges. After graduation, she expanded this to six locations.

Monica has been active in the KAS community for over a decade as a parent and active PTA participant. She has two boys attending KAS.

Kelvin Yuen Director

Kelvin joined the Board of Directors of KAS in 2023. He is the doting father of two daughters, one currently in KAS Kindergarten and another expected to enroll for KAS pre-Kindergarten in 2025.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Kelvin is native in English, Cantonese and speaks Mandarin thanks to his Kaohsiung born wife and her family.

Kelvin's 22 plus year career spans across diverse industries and locations, most recently holding management roles at Hong Kong based climate technology startup Allinfra and various senior investment banking roles during his 12 year tenor at Macquarie Group (MQG.AU), heading up solar principal investments in Greater China, Shanghai client coverage and equity capital markets in Greater China.
Kelvin is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, holding a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He is a Chartered Accountant in Australia & New Zealand and also serves as an independent non-executive director and audit committee chairman on the Board of Hong Kong-listed vocational education and training provider Fenbi Ltd (2469.HK).

A forward-thinking, entrepreneurial professional with a global perspective, Kelvin sees education as vital for sustaining and improving modern society. His service to the KAS Board reflects his passion in preparing students for future success in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
