In December 2010, Kaohsiung City merged with Kaohsiung County to be Greater Kaohsiung, a metropolis occupying an area of 2,946 km, it’s now massive! Every city is now considered a District and areas are going to be a lot more accessible with the plans for expansion of public transport.
Kaohsiung City is an important international hub for Taiwan. It has a complete air/marine transportation network port and the industries of logistics, financial insurance, and services as the center of talent incubation and technology research and development. Kaohsiung County owns a variety of agricultural resources as well as industrial and high-technology parks. This puts Kaohsiung in a unique place of being both industrial and agricultural, bringing together the best of both worlds.
